Vesselina Kasarova as Carmen in Bratislava

Yesterday in the Slovak National opera was singing Vesselina Kasarova, a remerkable phenomenon on an opera sky, for sure. An amazing interpreter of baroque music, of Mozart’s and Donizetti’s operas… Her Carmen was very unusual, like it was a mix from Sextus, mad Azucena and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix from the Harry Potter movies. So that are my asociations. I better do not talk about singing, but I’m wondering, what are the critics going to write.

“Mozart and Salieri” in Slovakia

Some days ago I read in the news that in February 2016 is planned a production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart and Salieri” in the State Opera of Košice. As the great Yoda said: “Suddenly it is”. Rimsky-Korsakov is a rare guest of the stages of the European theaters, although recently, in 2013 was released “The Tsar’s Bride” in Berlin, and some critics argue that “The Golden Cockerel” attracts western directors by inimitable irony. And now it’s “Mozart and Salieri”, in the year of the 260th anniversary of lovely Wolfgang Amadeus. It is pleasant and interesting.

P. S. Speaking of Mozart, this is my Cherubino.

Happy birthday, Igor!

Today there was an occasion to once again congratulate director of the State opera of Banska Bystrica Igor Bulla on the birthday. Enthusiastic, creative and responsible person with a great sense of humor. Thank you for good fellowship to not only orchestra but the singers too. Wish you a long acting career and great happiness, Igor! Všetko najlepšie!

Jose Kura has opened operas season in Bratislava

Jose Cura has opened the 96th season of the Slovak National Theatre.

A little tired, a little “stars”, not Canio on the stage, but Kura. There is no exaltation, no tenor cliché, all quietly stabbed and that’s that. He cut Nedda’s throat twice just to be sure… But seriously, feels tingles down my spine, the final turned out spectacular .

In his interview to Opera Slovakia website ( http://operaslovakia.sk/jose-cura-otvori-96-sezonu-slovenskeho-narodneho-divadla/ ) Jose Cura said that the “Pagliacci” opera is not about love, but about all of us, because life is so arranged that we all wear masks to hide our identity and become comedians.
